Tulsa is the state's Mecca for the arts and the city supports a burgeoning local arts scene along with some excellent art galleries that are home to works from around the world. The city's love of the arts is most easily seen from the profusion of Tulsa's Art Deco buildings, outdoor art galleries and displays, and public sculptures, including the 75-foot / 23-meter Golden Driller, a tribute to Tulsa's heady oil days.

Housed in a stunningly beautiful 1920s Italian-style villa are some 8,500 works of art, including impressive pieces from the Italian Renaissance period, Asian and Native American art as well as a number of sculptures. Opened in 1938 as Tulsa's first art museum, the building itself is the former home of oil magnate Waite Phillips and is now listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
